Forums:

Forums are a great place to talk to fellow modellers, learn new techniques and generally enjoy the hobby - there two are my favourite. Feel free to join and drop me a line, my forum name in both is 'stuart' (obviously).

Scale Plastic Aircraft Modeler - A great forum this, it's very small but there are some truly amazing and skilled modellers on there that post regularly. What stands it apart is that all are welcome, and the help and support for those with questions is awesome.

Unofficial Airfix Modellers Forum - A great all inclusive forum where anything and everything is built, and all modellers of any skill set are made to feel welcome.

Online modelling Suppliers:

Hannants - A great site this, they sell everything (well... Everything modelling related). A great source for aftermarket and decals.

King kit - If you're looking for a kit old or new, King kit will have it.

Airfix - Airfix's own site if you want that latest and greatest Airfix kit. Maybe not the cheapest but you can pre-order their new releases if you're after something specific.

Paint:

Hataka  - By far my favourite paints - if you're reading guys and want to sponsor me...

Humbrol - I'm wasn't overly fond of Humbrol Acrylics until recently as I never rated them, but they're growing on me - It's worth checking out the Gen2. 

Citadel  - Mainly developed for Games Workshop (very cool), Citadel paints are really good for brush painting and they have some great colours for detail work. I also like their washes and use them regularly.

...And don't forget Amazon and ebay, some great deals and most modelling items can be found on both (it's a must if you like old kits).

Airfix 1/72 H.P. Jetstream - Completed build.

 Going back to 2022, this is the first kit I built and finished in my new home - Airfix's lovely little 'Vintage Classic' re-release of their Handley Page Jetstream.  This aircraft didn't exist as such. In a hope to win a USAF order, H.P. re-engined their Jetstream with American engines and built a prototype. However, just before things got going, and after Airfix had made this tooling, the USAF cancelled the order - so we're basically left with a What-If kit. There were old conversion sets out there to convert this to a model used by yhr RAF and RN but I built this OOB using the lovely kit decals.  Paint are a mix of Revel Aqua metallic, Citadel white and odds and sods from Humbrol and Hataka, applied with a brush.  Overall I really enjoyed this build - It's a great little kit that went together really well. The fit was good and the decals were fantastic, although, being essentially a What-if, you could put any scheme you fancied.  Thanks for looking.  Cheers a

Completed Build - PM Model 1/72 Spitfire mk.Vb Floatplane (With a Twist)

Okay so this is the last of my updates intended to get this blog up to date with my completed builds.  It's this kit, PM Models (From Turkey) 1/72 Spitfire Floatplane ... Now this is a blooming awful kit. The base Spitfire is (If I Recall Correctly) an ancient FROG kit from the 1950s/60s with no interior or gull wing. PM models added the floats, but they don't fit well and are the wrong shape even if they did (the floats are too far forward) - if you want an accurate model of the Spitfire Floatplane, this isn't it.  However, I had something completely different in mind for this build.  It all started on Fathers day in 2023, when my daughter wrote me a steampunk style short story about an off the wall RAF Pilot 'Eccentric Ernst' and his Tern Sidekick 'Sandwich', that use a old reclimed Spitfire Floatplane, nicknamed 'the Red Herring' (after Ernst painted it red) to go off in search of a Clockwork Kraken - awesome!  So having read it, how could I not b

Completed Build - Airfix 1/72 Gloster Javelin F.A.W.9R

Another one of my recent SOD finishes - the old Airfix (ex-Heller) 1/72 Javelin kit - this one built as a FAW9R, based in Singapore in 1966.  Again, this is brush painted using a mixture of Hataka, Citadel and Humbrol acrylics, using my new Army Painter wet palette. It's not a bad kit for it's age, it actually went together very well, and certainly the best game in town until somebody brings out a new tooling!  It's great to have a Javelin on the shelf though - it's a total beast of an aircraft, bigger than the Tornado GR.1 I have sat next to it.    Cheers all, and thanks for visiting!
