Other Work In Progress...

These are the other two kits I have in WIP - both started in 2021 and being worked on as I can fit them in. Neither are on the 'Shelf of Doom' as I don't have one - If I loose interest in a kit I generally bin it as a S.O.D is a serious mojo killer, they're just slow burn builds. 

They're both glossed awaiting decals, I just need to build up the load outs first - as there's nothing worse for the mojo (asides from a S.O.D.) than getting a jet all decalled up and finished, to only then have to start building missiles and tanks etc. So I generally do them last, ready to fit after the decals. 

Airfix 1/72 F-15B

This is the new re-released 'A' kit, built as a 'B' as it still includes the parts for the two seater from the original release, even though Airfix took the option out of the starter set??? I do have two more of these in the stash, thanks to a poor delivery of an Airfix mystery box I had for Christmas - which meant they sent me two with the same contents. 



This build is going to represent a photo I have in one of my 80's USAF books, which depicts the first delivery aircraft to arrive at squadron in Europe - so it'll only be fitted with three tanks and no missiles. I do have some nice AM decals for it - I have aftermarket resin and PE mostly, but I love AM decals!

Hobbyboss F-14A

A lovely kit this, that I actually started last August whilst on Holiday in Northumberland, sitting in the little sun room with a wonderful view. 


This is where I am so far, glossed and ready for decals. I've tried to depict the beaten up paintwork a Tomcat gets in service - once it's decalled I'll add an all over grime wash. 


And that pretty much completes the picture of where I am now with my builds as of the 25/08/2022!

I doubt either of these two will get finished soon though, as I'm shortly to move out of my house of 16 years at the end of September - to begin a new life in North Wales a the end of October. So for a short time (6 weeks or so) I'll be living in digs at my Mother-in-Laws. I do intend to get them done once we're settled in though.

Completed Build - PM Model 1/72 Spitfire mk.Vb Floatplane (With a Twist)

Okay so this is the last of my updates intended to get this blog up to date with my completed builds.  It's this kit, PM Models (From Turkey) 1/72 Spitfire Floatplane ... Now this is a blooming awful kit. The base Spitfire is (If I Recall Correctly) an ancient FROG kit from the 1950s/60s with no interior or gull wing. PM models added the floats, but they don't fit well and are the wrong shape even if they did (the floats are too far forward) - if you want an accurate model of the Spitfire Floatplane, this isn't it.  However, I had something completely different in mind for this build.  It all started on Fathers day in 2023, when my daughter wrote me a steampunk style short story about an off the wall RAF Pilot 'Eccentric Ernst' and his Tern Sidekick 'Sandwich', that use a old reclimed Spitfire Floatplane, nicknamed 'the Red Herring' (after Ernst painted it red) to go off in search of a Clockwork Kraken - awesome!  So having read it, how could I not b

Airfix 1/72 H.P. Jetstream - Completed build.

 Going back to 2022, this is the first kit I built and finished in my new home - Airfix's lovely little 'Vintage Classic' re-release of their Handley Page Jetstream.  This aircraft didn't exist as such. In a hope to win a USAF order, H.P. re-engined their Jetstream with American engines and built a prototype. However, just before things got going, and after Airfix had made this tooling, the USAF cancelled the order - so we're basically left with a What-If kit. There were old conversion sets out there to convert this to a model used by yhr RAF and RN but I built this OOB using the lovely kit decals.  Paint are a mix of Revel Aqua metallic, Citadel white and odds and sods from Humbrol and Hataka, applied with a brush.  Overall I really enjoyed this build - It's a great little kit that went together really well. The fit was good and the decals were fantastic, although, being essentially a What-if, you could put any scheme you fancied.  Thanks for looking.  Cheers a

Completed Build - Airfix 1/72 Gloster Javelin F.A.W.9R

Another one of my recent SOD finishes - the old Airfix (ex-Heller) 1/72 Javelin kit - this one built as a FAW9R, based in Singapore in 1966.  Again, this is brush painted using a mixture of Hataka, Citadel and Humbrol acrylics, using my new Army Painter wet palette. It's not a bad kit for it's age, it actually went together very well, and certainly the best game in town until somebody brings out a new tooling!  It's great to have a Javelin on the shelf though - it's a total beast of an aircraft, bigger than the Tornado GR.1 I have sat next to it.    Cheers all, and thanks for visiting!
