It's been a while...

 Well it's been a while! 

A lot has happened since my last post - the main thing being my big move last October to North Wales. Sufficed to say this impacted my modelling quite a lot, as I've been settling into my new home and surroundings. 

North Wales is a stunning place to live - The Sea, the Mountains of Snowdonia, Castles, a plentiful supply of Cafes - it's all here. 

I also have a new work area in my little home office, which has been really nice to work in - I've even managed to use my airbrush that I was gifted last MAY!!! I've not yet figured out where to fit the extractor I have, but I do have a decent mask and I'm next to a window - so ventilation isn't an issue. 


I also have a nice new set of drawers to keep all my modelling stuff - much better than the random boxes and tubs I had previously. 


(Almost looks professional!)


And shelves for all my Reference books, rather than the back of a cupboard - which I'm really loving. 


All in all I'm really pleased with my new set up - it's been a lot of fun to make models in thus far, although I have been known to take a tray downstairs and build in front of the fire too. 

From a modelling perspective living in North Wales is great - I have about 6 LMS's in a one hour drive, including one that's a 3 minute walk away. I also have the great little Airworld aviation museum at Caernarfon Airport about 45mins down the road. 

The only sad thing really is all of my built models (and my WIP) being stuck in storage back in Buckinghamshire - all thanks to my toxic Mother-in-Law. Hopefully I might be able to get them back at some-point, but until then I have an empty display case to fill up!

Anyway - back to the builds!

Completed Build - PM Model 1/72 Spitfire mk.Vb Floatplane (With a Twist)

Okay so this is the last of my updates intended to get this blog up to date with my completed builds.  It's this kit, PM Models (From Turkey) 1/72 Spitfire Floatplane ... Now this is a blooming awful kit. The base Spitfire is (If I Recall Correctly) an ancient FROG kit from the 1950s/60s with no interior or gull wing. PM models added the floats, but they don't fit well and are the wrong shape even if they did (the floats are too far forward) - if you want an accurate model of the Spitfire Floatplane, this isn't it.  However, I had something completely different in mind for this build.  It all started on Fathers day in 2023, when my daughter wrote me a steampunk style short story about an off the wall RAF Pilot 'Eccentric Ernst' and his Tern Sidekick 'Sandwich', that use a old reclimed Spitfire Floatplane, nicknamed 'the Red Herring' (after Ernst painted it red) to go off in search of a Clockwork Kraken - awesome!  So having read it, how could I not b

Airfix 1/72 H.P. Jetstream - Completed build.

 Going back to 2022, this is the first kit I built and finished in my new home - Airfix's lovely little 'Vintage Classic' re-release of their Handley Page Jetstream.  This aircraft didn't exist as such. In a hope to win a USAF order, H.P. re-engined their Jetstream with American engines and built a prototype. However, just before things got going, and after Airfix had made this tooling, the USAF cancelled the order - so we're basically left with a What-If kit. There were old conversion sets out there to convert this to a model used by yhr RAF and RN but I built this OOB using the lovely kit decals.  Paint are a mix of Revel Aqua metallic, Citadel white and odds and sods from Humbrol and Hataka, applied with a brush.  Overall I really enjoyed this build - It's a great little kit that went together really well. The fit was good and the decals were fantastic, although, being essentially a What-if, you could put any scheme you fancied.  Thanks for looking.  Cheers a

Completed Build - Airfix 1/72 Gloster Javelin F.A.W.9R

Another one of my recent SOD finishes - the old Airfix (ex-Heller) 1/72 Javelin kit - this one built as a FAW9R, based in Singapore in 1966.  Again, this is brush painted using a mixture of Hataka, Citadel and Humbrol acrylics, using my new Army Painter wet palette. It's not a bad kit for it's age, it actually went together very well, and certainly the best game in town until somebody brings out a new tooling!  It's great to have a Javelin on the shelf though - it's a total beast of an aircraft, bigger than the Tornado GR.1 I have sat next to it.    Cheers all, and thanks for visiting!
